In the photos, we find a wide variety of different cosmic objects which include from top to bottom and from left to right : the galaxy Messier 82, the cluster of galaxies Abell 2744, the remnants of the 1987 A supernova, the Eta Carinae binary star system, the Cartwheel galaxy and the planetary Helix nebula. Telescopes around the world have worked hand in hand to make these images.
For galaxy M82 , Chandra's x-rays, in blue and pink, show a gas of about 20,000 light years that has been heated to temperatures above ten million degrees by repeated explosions of supernovae.
The gal clusteraxies Abell 2744 contains large amounts of superheated gas, at temperatures of several tens of millions of degrees. The gas in blue was spotted by Chandra's x-rays, while the surrounding stars were spotted by Hubble.
Supernova 1987 A , one of the brightest explosions in supernovae for centuries, took place in a nearby galaxy, called the Large Magellanic Cloud. This photo shows the remnants of the explosion.
The Eta Carinae binary star system contains two massive stars that orbit closely around each other. According to NASA, this system could soon house the next supernova. Purple corresponds to Chandra's x-ray data. The photo is supplemented by data from Hubble, which shows ultraviolet in cyan and optical data in white.
The Cartwheel galaxy was once a normal spiral galaxy. However, she has subi collided with another smaller galaxy about 200 million years ago. The gas, in purple, was dragged over 150,000 light years after the collision.
Finally, the image of the planetary nebula Helix is about 4 years old - diameter light. It shows a white dwarf star that formed in the center of the nebula.
The images from NASA are always very captivating
This summer NASA unveiled striking images of Mars , taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) . Astronomers had also discovered the" South Pole Wall, a gigantic structure spanning 1.4 billion light years . Finally, the Very Large Telescope, located in Chile, had photographed a" cosmic butterfly thousands of years old- light of the Earth .
